  • Makayla Pounds: Where I'm From

January 01, 2024

By Makayla Pounds

I'm from buckeye trees,

From the sound of Saturday football,

From the smell of my grandma's famous chili.

I'm from the home of The Little Brown Jug,

the second leg of the harness racing triple crown.

I'm from the smell of bonfires in the summer to the crisp leaves in the fall.

I'm from the little town where people have big dreams,

From Friday nights being spent at a high school football game,

And Sunday mornings being spent at church.

I'm from "if you're not an Ohio State Buckeye fan, then you don't belong here."

I'm from treat others the way you want to be treated.

And you must respect your elders.

From the small town where everyone knows everyone.

I'm from Ohio,

And I would not trade it,

Even if the whole world was offered to me.
